- 1 cup butter – softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 bag m&m’s – red, white and blue
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp shortening
*preheat oven to 375 degrees
Before doing anything cookie dough related, get the M&M preparation out of the way!
Take about 3/4 of the bag and chop the M&M”s up into smaller pieces! It’s a bit time consuming but just makes the cookie look pretty. Feel free to keep them all whole if you’d like!
I basically cut each candy in half and then roughly chopped them in batches with my knife.
To keep people on their toes…I kept the rest of the bag whole. It’s a different experience with each bite!
On to the dough! With your mixer on medium-high, cream together your butter and your sugars.
After they are thoroughly mixed, add your vanilla and eggs. This completes the wet ingredients portion of the dough.
Now the dry ingredients! Add your baking powder, baking soda and your flour – one cup at a time.
Mix on medium speed until a thick cookie dough forms.
Add your candy!
If you did it the way I did, add ALL of it, the teeny tiny remains as well. Who would want to waste good candy anyways??
Once your dough is filled with red, white and blue specks, chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
When the dough is completely chilled, you’re now ready to roll!
I made these cookies a bit smaller than normal and got 32 cookies out of this batch. I rolled 8 cookies per 4 sheet pans.
Bake for 9 minutes.
When the cookies are finished, set them onto a large piece of foil to cool – you will see why shortly!!
Melt your white chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave until totally melted.
I put them in for 1 minute, mixed then did another 10 seconds and it melted together perfectly!
When your cookies are completely cooked, take a spoon, swirl it around your white chocolate melt and drizzle over the cookies!
Do so with quick, short movements. It just seems to keep the chocolate from plopping around all over the place!!
Let chocolate set for about 30 minutes so it’s nice and stuck to the cookie!
